With over 40 years of working in the music business, David Landon brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to each project he is involved with. In addition to be a highly experienced engineer, David is an accomplished guitarist, singer, bassist, composer and arranger. He also can play drums and keyboards. He continues to perform regularly at clubs and festivals and to release new c.d.s. The fact that David is an active working musician is why he approaches each recording from a musician's point of view. He understands that the essence of recording is making the artist feel comfortable in order to make great music. Getting great sound in the studio is only a prerequisite to making great recordings.
David’s education in engineering is decidedly “old school. He was an intern in various studios for years and learned his craft with a hands on approach from a variety of top engineers beginning in1984 at Goldsmith’s studio in London, England. His music would lead him to work in studios throughout Europe in the 80s. In 1992 David began working at Emerald City Productions recording studio in San Francisco. Within one year David went from intern to first engineer and studio manager. After 3 successful years, Mr. Landon decided to build his own studio and in 2001 opened Whip Records Studio in Berkeley.
